Deep in the Heart of (Outdoor) Wedding Planning
Guest Post for Lone Star Literary
By
Janice Thompson
There’s nothing like a Texas wedding. We know
how to do it up right in the Lone Star State. And there’s nothing like an
outdoor wedding reception when you’re not sure if the weather will cooperate! (Can
I get an Amen?)
A few years back I
was asked to bake a cake for a friend whose wedding was set to take place
outdoors in a field. Talk about nervous! In my imagination I pictured my lovely
wedding cake melting under rainy skies. Or, worse. I wondered if the cream
cheese frosting would slide off of the yummy concoction as a result of the
crazy-high Texas temps. Fortunately, nothing I’d worried about actually
happened. This sweet shabby chic wedding was so fun and everything came
together seamlessly, and the cake survived! (The warmth of the sun gave it that
“fresh from the oven” flavor!)
I had this beautiful
outdoor event in mind when I came up with the idea for Every Bride Has Her Day, the third and final installment in the
Brides with Style series from Revell Publishing.
Picture a sweet
outdoor reception on the courthouse lawn in the quaint, small-ish town of
Fairfield, Texas. Now picture all of the townspeople in attendance. Now imagine
that half the people in the town aren’t talking to the other half. If you can
picture all of that, you’ve got the gist of my story. Katie and Brady, the
bride and groom, are deep in the heart of wedding planning while those around
them are deep in arguments and chaos!
Maybe you can
relate. Maybe you’ve tried to put together a big event and no one seemed to get
along. If so, then you’ll really enjoy this wacky, chaotic story, set in a
sweeter-than-peaches town you’ll grow to love. Watch as the chaos morphs into
something beautiful. Look on in wonder as Katie and Brady witness hard hearts
softening before their very eyes. Then, with the rest of the wedding guests, enjoy
the outdoor reception of a lifetime! Spend time sipping lemonade, nibbling on
wedding cake and watching the bride and groom ride off into a glorious Texas
sunset together. You’ll be glad you took the time to stop by, I promise you!
This will be one outdoor event you’ll never forget.
